## Notes on the facts

- **Release choice.** The release list at https://github.com/paradigmxyz/reth/releases shows v2.8.1 (2026-10-23T11:18:40Z) as the newest entry, and it is not flagged as a pre-release or draft. The release before it is v2.8.0 (2026-10-20). The date is the GitHub `published_at` timestamp in UTC.
- **License detail.** GitHub's license detector shows only "Apache-2.0" in the repository sidebar, because it picks up one license file. The workspace `Cargo.toml` at tag v2.8.1 declares `MIT OR Apache-2.0`, and the repo has both `LICENSE-APACHE` and `LICENSE-MIT` files (https://github.com/paradigmxyz/reth/blob/v2.8.1/LICENSE-MIT), so the SPDX expression is `MIT OR Apache-2.0`. The README also says that building with the optional `gmp` feature pulls in GMP under LGPL-3.0-or-later or GPL-2.0-or-later. That covers an optional dependency, not Reth's own license.

## Notable changes in v2.8.1 (from its release notes)

Source: https://github.com/paradigmxyz/reth/releases/tag/v2.8.1

v2.8.1 is a small point release. Its notes list one functional change (plus "chore: release 2.8.1"), so only the items below can be reported:

1. **Amsterdam hardfork removed from the Hoodi testnet schedule.** The release bumps `alloy-hardforks` to 0.4.11, which drops Amsterdam from Hoodi's schedule, so Hoodi stays on BPO2 (PR https://github.com/paradigmxyz/reth/pull/28089, upstream https://github.com/alloy-rs/hardforks/pull/113). The notes link to the cancellation announcement: https://blog.ethereum.org/2026/10/22/glamsterdam-hoodi-delay
2. **Action required for Hoodi operators.** They must upgrade before 26 October 2026 at 17:42:48 UTC, the activation time v2.8.0 had scheduled. A v2.8.0 node on Hoodi would activate Amsterdam at that time and fork off the network. The update priority is "High on Hoodi, Low elsewhere" for both payload builders and non-payload builders.
3. **No database changes.** Downgrading to v2.8.0 is possible, but on Hoodi that version still activates Amsterdam.

Not found: no further notable changes. The v2.8.1 notes list nothing else.
